Skirts&Spindles is a website about using style–your personal style, which everyone has–to improve your life. Here, I’ll tell stories, make suggestions, pose questions, and wrangle discussions about style and how it intersects with self-care.
So why is this site named Skirts&Spindles? “Skirts” represents items you can buy from a store, the culture that we live in, and the influences and expectations we’re subject to in our environment (workplace, neighborhood, city or town). “Spindles” are the tools we use to make sense of it all; they are the choices we make, the reasons we make them, and how we manifest those choices in our style. (Note: less metaphorically, spindles are used to make fibers into yarn.)
More simply, let’s call these the public self and the private self. Our public self may know that it needs to go to work or pay the bills, while our private self may prefer to crater into the couch and watch Netflix. The private self may prefer to stay in pajamas but the public self knows that’s not going to fly at the office. And so on.
In this site, I’ll explore how these two ideas go together. But I don’t want to write in a vacuum, so please leave comments below.
Let’s get started! See you in the next post.
